Dear Alcohol Consumer,
Hi all.. How are ya.. Still kogutan ka? Errm, actually this topic just crossed my mind this morning.. So, as the one who is expert in nutrition, just wanna share with all of ya a bit information about alcohol..
What is alcohol? Chemically, it is a structure bonded with OH (hydroxyl).. Betul ka ni huh? Forgot la, Chemistry subject Form 4 ni.. Kalau x silap..
In term of calorie contribution, alcohol provides 7 kilocalories per gram compare to carbohydrate = 4 kcal/g, protein = 4 kcal/g and fat = 9 kcal/g respectively.. So meaning that excessive alcohol consumption may also promote weight gain.. If we see the differences of fat distribution between male and female, we can obviously seen in men fat will be more distributed in abdominal area a.k.a Apple Shape, and compare to women fat will be more concentrated on a thigh area a.k.a Pear Shape.. So, men are at a higher risk of having CVD (Cardiovascular Disease)..Sebab fat banyak bekumpul d perut, sana tu kan kawasan jantung...
Apple Shape (Android Shape) vs Pear Shape (Gynoid Shape).. Another shape is Ovoid Shape.. Malas mau cari gambar ni Ovoid Shape, cari sendiri la k.. The shape is flat from up to downward the body..Of all calories from fat, alcohol, protein and CHO (carbohydrate), our body tend to use energy from alcohol first.. That’s why when we consume alcohol, the remaining calories from CHO, protein and fat will be stored in our body and thus promoting weight gain..
Not to be offensive, I’ve gone through some health magazine and found that alcohol, when consumed in moderation may promote cardio protective effect.. I never gone trough any journals regarding this fact so I don’t know weather this fact is from scientifically evidence based research or not.. But if the source is true, how much is the “MODERATION”? People out there guess la how much?
One is the good of alcohol is strengthen our social bonding.. tapi kalu lebih minum ada jg yang bergaduh kan.. ni x bole kira ni..So I’d explained about the ‘good’ of alcohol.. What is the ‘bad’ part of it???.. To name a few:
1.Fatty LiverThis disease occurred when our liver fail to filter fat in our body.. Fatty infiltration will occurred and fat will be deposited in our liver.. This is also the earlier stages of Alcoholic Liver Disease.. Gambar sikit…

Fatty liver.. Nampak ka tu lelemak? Sa mcm x nampak ja..huhuhu.. Color ja beza kan.. 2.Alcoholic Liver Disease..This is a last stage of liver disease.. Usually at this stage, Liver fail to function as the liver cells become cirrhotic, scarred and irregular.. In this stage, if the liver still fail to regenerate this disease maybe irreversible.. High protein Low Salt Diet may be recommended for this patient.. Why High Protein? To promote liver cells regeneration.. Why Low Salt?? People might have portal Hypertension (bleeding tendency and vomiting of blood).. But if this condition not be treated immediately, Hepatic Encephalopathy (excessive accumulation of ammonia in blood and it cross our blood brain barrier) may occur and finally leads to coma – Ammonia is toxic to our brain!!! So people, whatever we consume, have to consume in MODERATION.. So, how much is recommended? According to Medical Nutrition Therapy Guidelines, 2 unit (standard serving) alcohol for men and 1 unit for women.. How much is 1 unit????
A unit is defined as:
5 ounces of wines = 150 ml wines
12 ounces of beer = 360 ml beers
1 ½ ounces of 80-proof whisky..
(Kalau macam ni mana cukup kan, pening pun x mangkali)How about vodka, stout?? Calculate urself guys.. If the alcohol percentage is high, just drink in a small amount la kan..
How about montoku, bahar or tapai in which we don’t know the alcohol percentages? As for me, I just advise people to ‘biris’ 2-3 kali saja.. Tarik2 tu usuk la, nanti kalu minum tawar2 sakit perut pula.. Betul ba kan???
First time I drink tapai in a biggest tajau.. 4 org satu kali minum means ada 4 usuk (bamboo straw).. Taju ni lebih besar dr tajau 3×3.. Sua minum tapai ada lg gelas d tangan.. Tamaha btul woo..
So whatever it is, bare in mind that when it come to alcohol consumption, do it in ‘MODERATION’.. (Sa ni pandai menasihat ja, tapi sendiri pun x ikut.. What a Dietitian am I huh!!!)
